How to change Elevator steel rope?
2025-03-01
The steps to replace the elevator wire rope are as follows:

1. Preparation
Clarify the specific model and specifications of the elevator wire rope that needs to be replaced.
Prepare special replacement tools and accessories, such as wire rope cutters, wire rope clamps, wire rope tensioners, guardrails, carts, hoists, long hemp ropes, and other common tools.
Coordinate with relevant departments to confirm the downtime for the elevator.
2. Safety Protection Measures
All personnel involved in the work must hold an elevator maintenance certificate and wear relevant personal protective equipment, such as insulating shoes, safety helmets, and safety belts.
Hang a warning sign "Elevator repair in progress – Do not use" in front of the elevator hall and another warning sign "Do not turn off power – Personnel operating" on the main power switch in the machine room to ensure safety during the operation.
3. Dismantling the Old Elevator Steel Rope
Turn off the elevator power and stop the elevator at a suitable location (e.g., the middle floor or top floor).
Ensure that there is no one in the elevator car or the machine room.
Use the elevator wire rope tensioner to check the tension of the elevator steel rope. If the tension is uneven, adjust it accordingly.
Use the wire rope clamp to fix the old elevator steel rope on the shaft wall or the wire rope tensioner.
Use the wire rope cutter to cut the old elevator wire rope, then carefully remove it from the shaft and thoroughly clean the area.
4. Installing the New Elevator Steel Rope
Transport the new elevator wire rope drum or coil to the elevator pit or top of the car.
One person needs to help straighten the elevator wire rope at the pit and the bottom of the car while another person pulls the new elevator steel rope from the bottom of the car around the traction wheel.
As the car ascends, pass the new elevator wire rope through the traction wheel and counterweight wheel.
When one end of the new elevator steel rope reaches the appropriate position with the car, create a rope head at the counterweight or machine room.
Ensure the elevator wire rope is properly installed in all the wheel grooves, tighten the other end of the rope, leave a suitable margin, and make a rope head at the car or machine room.

5. Finishing Work
Check that the tension of all the elevator wire ropes is uniform to ensure smooth elevator operation.
Clean up the site and return used tools and equipment to their original positions.
Communicate with relevant departments to confirm that the elevator can be restored to normal use.
