An elevator button is a key component of an elevator system that allows passengers to interact with the elevator and select their desired floor or function. Located inside the elevator car and sometimes outside on each floor, elevator buttons are designed to facilitate ease of use while providing control over the elevator's movement.

In the car operating panel (COP) inside the elevator, passengers can press floor selection buttons, which signal the elevator to stop at the chosen floors. These buttons are often labeled numerically or with other designations (e.g., "L" for Lobby, "P" for Parking, or "R" for Roof). Some elevators may also include buttons for special functions, such as "Door Open," "Door Close," "Emergency Stop," or "Alarm." In more advanced systems, there may be buttons or touch screens for priority service, express mode, or restricted-access floors.

Outside the elevator, on each landing, there are typically call buttons, which are used to request the elevator to come to that floor. These buttons may include "Up" and "Down" arrows to indicate the passenger's intended direction of travel.

Elevator buttons are built to be durable and accessible, often featuring tactile elements for visually impaired users, as well as backlighting for visibility in low-light conditions. Some modern systems even integrate touch-sensitive or motion-activated controls, enhancing convenience and hygiene in public or high-traffic buildings.
